Lady Hermon MP Welcomes Plans for Copelands, Dementia and Nursing Care

Lady Sylvia Hermon MP has welcomed the news that BCM has submitted a planning application to build Copelands, Dementia and Nursing Care in Millisle.

Lady Hermon recently joined Peter Passmore, Professor of Ageing and Geriatric medicine at Queen's University Belfast, and BCM Dementia Lead Sarah Penney to have a peek at the plans for the new state-of-the-art dementia and nursing care home that will create 60 jobs in North Down.

Lady Hermon said: “I’m delighted, truly delighted, that Belfast Central Mission has come forward with this excellent initiative in terms of caring for those with dementia.  The enthusiastic endorsement of leading experts like Professor Peter Passmore speaks volumes for the quality and design of this new dementia care home, planned for a site on the outskirts of Millisle.

“Not only will the Copelands Care Home offer future residents a safe, caring and tranquil environment in a beautiful part of my North Down constituency, but hopefully it will also provide opportunities to recruit appropriately qualified and dedicated staff from the locality.”

BCM Dementia Lead Sarah Penney said: “I am excited to report that we have submitted our planning application to build Copelands Dementia and Nursing Care in Millisle. The home will provide residents with the opportunity to live more positively with a dementia diagnosis.

“The model of care that we employ is one that encourages residents to live independently, whilst in a fully staffed safe, secure environment. It means that for Copelands’ residents, a dementia diagnosis does not mean they should stop living.”
