105 Years Young!

Kirk House resident Mrs Sadie Norris celebrated her 105th birthday at the weekend with her friends, family and neighbours.  Sadie and her twin sister May Porter were born in Belfast in 1910 when King Edward VII was on the throne and the Titanic had yet to be launched.  Sadie has lived all her life in Northern Ireland and was Manageress in Thompsons shop on the Cregagh Road before getting married to Robert in July 1946.

Mrs Norris moved to Kirk House in 2006 and is actively involved in all the residents’ activities.  Mrs Norris herself puts her longevity down to keeping active by playing bowls and walking to the local shops!  Even though it won’t be her first time receiving them, Mrs Norris is still very much looking forward to both the telegram from the Queen and the commemorative coin from the Irish President.  The staff at Kirk House organised a party for the residents to celebrate alongside her family and friends, including a special homemade cake and musical entertainments.  Kirk House Manager Andrea Selby said, “All the staff and residents are delighted to be celebrating her birthday and we wish Sadie many happy returns.”

Kirk House is a residential home which is managed by Belfast Central Mission and provides ‘housing with care’ where residents’ independence, freedom of choice, self-esteem and dignity are respected and they are supported to maintain links with their family and local community.  Click here to visit their website.
